Participant guide
Link your tournament identity to check in, receive draws, and reopen your private CalicoTab link.

Start here: connect your account
Link your Discord account to your tournament identity once per tournament. If you received an invitation email, use it. If not, use your CalicoTab Private URL.
Join from your invitation email
The email subject is Your invitation: <tournament name> (Lời mời tham gia: <tournament name> in Vietnamese emails).
- Open the email. Check spam, junk or trash if you cannot find it. Select Join Discord and link account (Tham gia Discord và liên kết tài khoản).
- Sign in with Discord. Use the Discord account you want to use for this tournament. Your Discord email does not need to match the invitation mailbox.
- Check your details. The page title must name your tournament. Your name, role and team must be correct.
- Select Confirm and join server. This joins the tournament server and links your identity. Signing in alone does neither.
Keep your invitation link private. It works for seven days.

If the invitation does not work
- Expired, or your details are wrong: ask the Tab Team for a replacement invitation.
- Shared mailbox: open the message that names you, and sign in with your own Discord account.
- Discord asks you to accept server rules first: this is membership screening. Finish it. Then reopen your invitation, sign in and confirm again so your roles can be assigned.
- You joined the server but linking failed: reopen the invitation and confirm again with the same Discord account.
- Still stuck: use the Private URL steps below, or ask the Tab Team to link you.
Link with your Private URL
Use this if you did not get an invitation, or if it does not work.
- Find your Private URL in your tournament email. Check spam or trash if needed. The link contains
/privateurls/…/. - Open the private form or the command. Use one of these:
- Button: select Connect your account (Liên kết tài khoản in Vietnamese) on the onboarding message, or on your private
/roomor/tabreply. - Command: in your tournament Discord server, type
/connectand select Moji’s command.
- Button: select Connect your account (Liên kết tài khoản in Vietnamese) on the onboarding message, or on your private
- Paste the complete Private URL, including
/privateurls/…/, into the form or theprivate-urloption. Then submit. Keep your Private URL private: never post it in chat or share a screenshot of it. - Check your name in the private confirmation.

Returning at a new tournament?
If you used /connect before, Moji can recognize your Discord account. It sends one welcome-back reminder when you join a new tournament server. Your previous link and roles do not carry over. Link yourself again with that tournament’s own invitation or Private URL.
After you link
- Roles and nickname: the bot updates your Discord nickname and tournament roles. If Discord membership screening is pending, roles wait until you finish it.
- Core Adjudicators: if you already hold CAP and link as an Adjudicator, the bot keeps CAP, adds Adjudicator, and keeps the
CAP - Namenickname. This applies even if your Core Adjudicator checkbox is not selected in CalicoTab. - Confirmation DM: the bot sends you a private DM. After a Private URL link, the DM includes your tournament banner, Private URL and meeting link (if configured). Keep it for easy bookmarking. After an invitation link, the DM confirms your name and points you to
/roomand/tab. - Turn on DMs: in Discord, open User Settings → Privacy & Safety. Enable Allow direct messages from server members. The bot sends your draw and round updates by DM.
- If a DM does not arrive: run
/roomto see your current assignment privately.
Check in
When a public check-in card appears, press ✅ Check In on the latest card. Press ↩️ Check Out to reverse it. The bot writes your choice to CalicoTab and confirms privately.
During busy periods, your request may wait before processing. Wait for the private result before clicking again; the initial loading reply does not mean you are checked in. If the bot says the request could not start, try again shortly. A card that closes while you wait cannot accept your request; contact the Tab Team.
The bot may show a private waiting message. Your check-in is not saved until the final confirmation. Waiting can last several minutes, up to 12 minutes while the card remains open. If the card closes or is replaced before processing starts, use the current card if check-in is open, or contact the Tab Team. Requests still waiting during a bot restart are not replayed; try again after it returns.
- Debaters: the card says whether one representative or every team member must check in.
- Adjudicators: if the Tab Team opens an Adjudicator Check-in card, use it to confirm availability for the round.
- No buttons or a closed card? Follow the latest announcement. Ask the Tab Team if you are unsure how to check in.
See check-in examples
Use the buttons on the latest open card.
If participant self check-in is not enabled, the bot posts a notice without buttons.
Receive your draw
When the Tab Team publishes a draw in CalicoTab, the bot normally sends your assignment by direct message (DM).
- Debaters see their team, side, opponent, room, and Adjudicators once those names are public.
- Adjudicators see the teams, room, and whether they are Chair or a panel member.
/room- Privately view your latest released assignment. Use it if you missed the DM. You must be linked first. If you have no room card, the reply says why: you have a bye, Adjudicator allocations are not public yet, or you are not assigned to a debate in the current public draw.
Sides and positions
- Two-team formats:
AffandNeg. - British Parliamentary (BP): your DM and
/roomshow your position and all four teams.OGis Opening Government,OOis Opening Opposition,CGis Closing Government, andCOis Closing Opposition.

Join your debate online
For online tournaments, a Bot Manager can set one meeting link for the tournament. If they do, your connection DM and draw DMs include it.
In draw DMs and updates, select the room name or Join Your Debate. Both open the same meeting. Without a valid meeting link, the room name stays plain text. Bye assignments have no room link.

Follow motions and prep time
Watch the tournament channel for the published motion, info slide, and prep-time updates. Follow the latest messages; you do not need to run a command.

Submit your team’s veto
Some formats, such as Asian Parliamentary or Australs, use motion veto. The bot then posts a ⚔️ Motion Release & Veto card. Any linked Debater on your team can submit for the whole team.
- Agree on a ranking with your team before anyone submits.
- Open the veto form. Select 🗳️ Submit Team Veto on the announcement card. Alternatively, run
/roomand select 🗳️ Submit Motion Veto. - Select your 🥇 1st Choice motion.
- Select the motion to ❌ Veto. The remaining motion becomes your 🥈 2nd Choice.
- Check your room: select 📋 My Room Status on the card, or run
/room. The private reply shows whether each team in your room has locked in.
Your room’s veto ends when both teams submit or time runs out. The card updates first. Then linked Debaters and Adjudicators in the room receive a DM with the chosen motion. The DM may arrive shortly after the card updates.
Submit ballots and feedback
You submit ballots and feedback in CalicoTab, through your Private URL.
/tab- Get your Private URL by DM. You must be linked first. The link is never posted publicly.
- Ballot reminders (Chairs): if your room still has no ballot recorded, the Tab Team can schedule a 🗳️ Ballot Reminder DM to the linked Chair. Open your Private URL and submit the ballot in CalicoTab.
- Feedback reminders: when staff send feedback reminders, Moji DMs linked Adjudicators with missing feedback. It also DMs all linked Debaters on Teams with missing feedback. Open your Private URL and submit the required feedback in CalicoTab.
- Team feedback: agree with your teammates first. Each Debater does not need to submit separately.

After the tournament
Once results are published on CalicoTab, these free Moji tools read the tournament’s public tab:
- Tournament Recap: turn your results into a shareable image.
- Debater Tracker: follow your speaks and results across tournaments.
- Tournament Analytics: see statistics for the whole tournament.
- Certificates: for tournaments run by Moji Debate Academy, download your participation or award certificate.

| Problem | What to do |
|---|---|
| No draw DM | Run /room to see your assignment privately, or use View Draw. Check your DMs before you ask the Tab Team to retry. A timeout does not prove the DM was not delivered, and uncertain draw DMs are not automatically resent after a restart. |
/room or /tab asks you to use /connect | You are not linked in this tournament. This reply appears every time until you link, including at a new tournament. Follow Link with your Private URL. |
/room shows no room card | Read the reason in the reply. A bye or private Adjudicator allocations need no action. If you are not in the current public draw, check View Draw or ask the Tab Team. |
| Invalid Private URL | Copy the complete URL, including /privateurls/…/. |
/connect fails | Contact the Tab Team with the name shown for you in CalicoTab. Debaters also include their team name. |
| You cannot see a command | Check that you are in the tournament server. Then ask the Tab Team for help with command access. |
| Check-in card is closed or has no buttons | Use the latest card posted by the bot, or follow the latest announcement. |
| Meeting button is missing | Ask the Tab Team to check the tournament meeting link. |
/tab cannot find your URL | This can happen right after a bot restart. Select Connect your account on the reply, paste your Private URL again, then run /tab. Or contact the Tab Team. |
| An error shows a Support ID | Send the ID, the command name, and the approximate time to the Tab Team. |
Never share your Private URL, authentication details, or screenshots containing them.
